Word of the day: disingenuous
“not straightforward or candid; giving a false appearance of frankness” I just used this word for the first time. I kind of like it now.

This weekend and the Tumblr platform
Hey guys - hope you all had a good weekend. It was my grandpa’s birthday and I got a bike and new skis (deal of a lifetime). I wasn’t planning on getting the skis until James told me that Sports Chalet was having a 50% off sale on their 07/08 ski gear, so I headed over to investigate. Turns out they were having a 50% sale on their clearance prices. So I got a pair of Nordica boots that...

McCain suspends his campaign
People are tweeting up a storm about McCain suspending his campaign and how he’s using this as an excuse to not debate Obama on Friday. CNN story is here. I really can’t believe people would say that he’s using this as an excuse - what’s happening on Wall Street right now is one of the worst financial crises we’ve ever experienced in our history and people would...

Interview With a Hedge Fund Manager
This is from an n+1 article entitled “Interview With a Hedge Fund Manager” - very informative and entertaining read: Generally every year, at the beginning of the year, banks that we deal with will often have events, dinners or lunches, where they gather some of their big clients and discuss themes for the coming year, trade ideas for the coming year. They encourage everybody to, you...

a few things i learned from the post last night: 1) inflammatory posts do wonders for pageviews. 2) don’t mention people without their permission. 3) people on the internet love to tell you how ignorant you are. 4) i like when people on the internet tell me how ignorant i am.

tomorrow morning
i don’t have much invested in stocks (and it’s all in the vanguard fund), so the drop in the market shouldn’t hurt me too badly tomorrow (no filing for bankruptcy). that said, i think the whole situation is ridiculous. why did the fed bail out bear stearns and not lehman? it reminds me of delta airlines getting a bailout and not pan american airlines. i’m sure there are...
